Emotional Freedom Technique

  1. Give the negative feeling/thought/emotion a name.
  2. Close your eyes and notice: how unpleasant does it feel out of 10? Put a number on it.
  3. Keeping your eyes closed, tap the following areas and say, “Let go of ___ now.”
    • Top of head
    • Forehead
    • Bone next to the outside of your eye near temple
    • Cheekbone under pupil
    • Collarbone
    • Squeeze your wrist
  1. Relax and drop your hands, saying, “Peace.”
  2. Check back in – how does it feel now? Repeat as needed to get that number down to zero.
  3. Replace with a one-word positive feeling, tap the same points, saying, “I want ___ now.”
  4. Repeat, saying, “Even more ___ now.”

Check back in with the negative feeling you no longer have and enjoy the feeling you’ve created! I like to use this technique just before bed, to reset my mind for sleep.

Easy Self-Hypnosis

As you practice this for yourself often, it will become more and more automatic and effortless!

  1. Decide the following…
    • Your purpose for this session
    • How long you would like the session to be
    • How you would like to feel at the end (wide awake or ready for bed)

EXAMPLE: “I am going into hypnosis now for ten minutes, to open my creativity, and to wake up feeling alert and refreshed and ready for this project.”

  1. Find a point in front of you to focus on – it can be literally anything.
  2. Inhale deeply as if the air is entering through your eyes, opening your eyes wide.
  3. Exhale all the way out, closing your eyes.
  4. Continue to inhale and exhale like this, opening eyes on the inhale wide and closing them as you exhale, until your eyes become heavy, you close them for the rest of the session, and go into a hypnotic trance.
  5. Let go of the need to control or direct your conscious thought – it’s allowed to do whatever it pleases as you’re in trance, so just enjoy the sensations, sounds, thoughts, images, and feelings in you and around you! No need to force, just breathe and allow the experience to unfold.
  6. Your subconscious will automatically know when it’s time to come out. It’s magic!
