Frequently Asked Questions About Hypnosis

What is hypnosis and how does it work?

Hypnosis is a natural state of consciousness you may experience throughout your day, whether you realize it or not.

Have you ever driven home, only to realize you don’t remember the last five minutes of your drive? Or have you zoned out on a TV show and hours pass by without you feeling it? Or daydreamed out a window and forgot what someone said to you?

Hypnosis is actually pretty similar to these states – and can be far more profound. In a session with me, we’ll use that state of mind to gently and intentionally guide your thoughts and actions to a helpful state – one in which you can begin to make beautiful changes in your life.

You can think of it as massage therapy for your mind!

What does hypnosis feel like?

Many clients describe as a dreamlike meditative experience.

You may experience uniquely curious and expansive internal sensations, thoughts, imaginings, or feelings as your body and mind relax into a comfortable trance. Some "shifts" inside as the experience unfolds.

I like to call it a "mind massage."

After your session, you may discover you feel refreshed, alert, and empowered.

Will hypnosis work for me?

The goal of a hypnosis session is to empower you to make lasting changes in your life. It can educate you with tools improve or eliminate negative thinking patterns, unhealthy habits, or sabotaging beliefs.

Hypnosis is recognized by the American Medical Association and the American Psychological Association as a tool to catalyze real change in your life – and yes, it can help YOU, too!

However, hypnosis does not replace the diagnosis, evaluation, or treatment of medical or psychological issues. You still need to see your appropriate care provider!

Hypnosis is not a magic bullet to fix all your problems in life, but it can beautifully complement traditional talk therapy, pain management, weight/fitness management, and much, much more.

That said, results vary from person to person. Ultimately, it’s YOUR brain that creates the hypnotic state, and your hypnotist guides you through the process of getting in touch with the unconscious inner workings of your mind.

So, what’s your next goal? If you’re ready for change, hypnosis can help you achieve it.

How do I choose the right hypnotist?

When choosing someone to work with you, think about this...

Who has the message that resonates with you the best?

Who seems to understand your needs the best?

Who looks, feels, or sounds the best to you?

You CAN judge a book by its cover when it comes to making the changes you want to make, because you will do you best change work with someone you understand, like, and trust.

What kinds of clients do you work with?

I help anxious overthinkers, overanalytical minds, and those that have felt held back by feelings of people pleasing, self-criticism, self-doubt, and chronic stress... and those wanting to make a change.

What are the side effects of a hypnosis session?

You may feel physically and emotionally lighter, experience deep relaxation and peace, or get refreshing sleep that night. Hypnosis is a fantastic confidence booster and stress buster too!

Beyond improving your relationship to unwanted thoughts or behaviors or beliefs, you may find that you feel a little bit different when you wake up from trance than you did when you arrived.

By that, I mean, in the hours and days—and even weeks and months—following a session, you may notice a healthier attitude towards yourself and the world around you.

That said, individual results vary!

Will I lose control when I’m in a hypnotic trance?

Good news! You’re completely in control of your experience in hypnosis.

You cannot be hypnotized to do anything you do not want to do. And no, you won’t reveal your darkest secrets against your will. Your subconscious mind will still look out for your best interests and prevent you from doing or saying anything that goes against your morals, ethics, or sense of safety.

In fact, the goal of hypnosis is to help you regain control of those parts of your life that used to feel out of your control. Doesn’t that sound nice?
